About Uncover Mental Health Counseling
Hi I am Kristie, founder of Uncover Mental Health Counseling, a psychotherapy practice based in New York City.
We help people who seem to have it all on the outside but are really struggling on the inside. These are people who’re very good at what they do but feel overwhelmed, disconnected or unhappy deep down.
Our practice is a space for women, people of color and LGBTQIA+ individuals. We help them deal with the pressure and stress that comes with being who they are. We also help them work through feelings of burnout and emotional pain. We do all of this in a way that respects their culture and who they are as individuals.. We do it all online so they can get the help they need from wherever they are.
At Uncover Mental Health Counseling we think that being successful should not mean sacrificing your health. A lot of the people we work with are very driven and accomplished. They are also struggling with anxiety, burnout and self-doubt. They feel disconnected from themselves and others even though they have achieved a lot.
Our goal is to give our clients a space where they can learn more about themselves, deal with life’s challenges and make lasting changes. We use a kind and compassionate approach that is based on evidence and respects each person’s culture. We help people build lives that’re meaningful and sustainable lives that truly feel like their own.
My Story
I grew up in New York City. I know how tough it can be to keep pushing in a city like NYC. People here are always striving for more. It can feel like you need to be ambitious, do well and achieve a lot to make it.
Sometimes that comes at a cost to how you feel inside. Lots of people get to a point where they’ve done everything they thought they needed to do.
They’ve got a career, a stable income and people think they’re doing well. They still feel empty, worried or unsure about what’s next. I felt that way too.
Even though I achieved my goals I realized that something was missing. I wasn’t feeling aligned at peace or fulfilled.
I looked for therapists who understood what it’s like to be an achiever in NYC but I couldn’t find many. There didn’t seem to be therapists who got both the cultural and emotional sides of things.
Especially for people dealing with identity issues, pressures and high-performance environments. That gap in care led me to start Uncover Mental Health Counseling in 2019. It began as a private practice but I was determined to fill that gap.
Expanding Access to Therapy that Understands Cultures
Our goal has always been to offer therapy that truly gets what our clients are going through. We want our therapy to be sensitive to cultures and evidence-based.
We know that mental health is connected to things. Our clients often deal with:
- Feeling stressed because of systems and racial issues
- Being burnt out from work. Feeling like they have to be perfect
- Meeting cultural and family expectations
- Figuring out their gender identity. Dealing with LGBTQIA+ issues
- Feeling like they always have to be strong and its taking a toll on them
In 2020 during the pandemic we started offering online therapy. This allowed us to help clients outside of New York City who needed health care that was easy to access.
Our Team
Today Uncover Mental Health Counseling has a team of therapists. Our team includes therapists who’re Asian, Black and Queer. They bring together understanding and clinical expertise.
Our team is committed to helping clients. We help them build lives that feel successful. This means feeling successful on the outside. It also means feeling meaningful, grounded and emotionally fulfilling on the inside. Our team of therapists including therapists, Black therapists and Queer therapists work hard to achieve this.
Who We Help
We work with people who want to achieve a lot and understand themselves better. They want to make changes in how they feel.
Our clients often come to us for help with:
