I’m Kristie Tse, a licensed mental health counselor, and I run Uncover Mental Health Counseling.
At Uncover Mental Health Counseling, every session is by video with a licensed New York therapist, so you can show up from your couch, your desk, or any quiet spot for 45 minutes.
We know how it goes here your calendar is packed, the commute eats your evening, and therapy keeps sliding to “next month.” Online therapy takes the commute out. For most people, that’s the difference between starting and not starting.
We’re out-of-network, which means you pay at the session and we give you a superbill to send to your insurance. If your plan has out-of-network benefits, you may get part of the cost back, and we’ll check your benefits for you. The first step is a free 15-minute call
Why we offer online therapy NYC clients can stick with
I started Uncover in 2019 because I couldn’t find a therapist who understood what it’s like to hold it together in this city, and what that costs. In 2020 we moved online, and it stuck. Our clients are busy, driven people who look fine from the outside. A commute across town was often the thing standing between them and showing up. Online therapy takes that out.
Today Uncover is a team of therapists, and our clients can see any of them from wherever they are in New York State.

Your First Session
We start where anxiety actually lives for you not a checklist. You’ll talk about what you’ve tried, what you want to feel like, and whether this is the right fit.

Begin the Work
Weekly sessions, adapted to how your mind operates. Most clients begin noticing meaningful shifts within the first few weeks
Serving Manhattan, Brooklyn & Long Island Neighborhoods
We get it, therapy usually works better when it’s been adapted to your day to day world and how you live. That is also why we specifically help professionals and high achievers in these surrounding areas:
Online therapy NYC: what a session looks like
You click a link and your therapist is there. It works like regular therapy, just without the travel. You talk about what’s going on, your therapist listens and asks questions, and together you work out what to do about it. You leave each session with something to try.
You’ll need a private spot, a phone, tablet or computer with a camera, and decent wifi. Before your first session, we’ll make sure the link works, so you’re not fighting with it while the clock runs.
Roommates or family at home? It’s common. Headphones help. So does a white-noise app outside your door, or a session when the apartment is empty. Some people take their session on a walk. We’ll work it out with you.
Wifi cut out? Happens. Your therapist will jump back on or switch to a phone call, and you won’t lose your session.
Does online therapy work as well as in person?
For a lot of people, yes. Studies on video therapy show results close to in-person for things like anxiety and depression. But it’s not for everyone. If you’d rather sit in a room with someone, tell us and we’ll help you find that.
What matters most is whether you click with your therapist. That’s why the first call is free, and why we take time to match you with the right person on our team.

Online therapy NYC cost and insurance
We’d rather you hear the number from us than dig for it. Sessions run $300 depending on the therapist. The first session costs a little more than the ones after. You’ll find the full breakdown by therapist level in our rates and insurance FAQ.
We’re out-of-network, so you pay at the session, and we give you a superbill to send to your insurance. If your plan has out-of-network mental health benefits, your insurance may pay some of it back. Many plans pay back 60% to 80% of their allowed rate once you’ve met your deductible. Here’s an example, and it’s only an example: if your session is $300 and your plan pays back 60%, you’d get $180. Your plan will be different.
Not sure what your plan covers? We can check your benefits for you. Or call your insurance yourself. These guides will help: out-of-network vs in-network, what a superbill is, and what therapy costs in NYC.
New York’s Department of Financial Services also puts out telehealth coverage guidance. Coverage depends on your plan.
